School Food Program

FOOD SERVICE at Renaissance

Our meals are prepared in our own school kitchen by our food service staff.  Your child will receive breakfast served in the classroom, a hot lunch served either in the classroom or in our cafeteria, and a cold supper-to-go, free of charge.
  • We have reduced the number of people in the cafeteria at one time, so some lunches may be served in classrooms.
  • We do not provide individual bottled water at meals; please provide your child with a water bottle if desired.

Meal Modification Policy

Meal Modification Policy

The Renaissance Charter Schools will make substitutions in school meals for students who are considered to have a disability under 7 CFR 15b.3 and whose disability restricts their diet. School staff will be trained and involved in the procedures of meal modifications. Families will be notified of the availability of meal modifications and be provided the process to make requests, understand their rights to examine the record and to file a grievance in situations where a requested modification is not granted and to receive notice of the final decision and the procedure for review.

Families need to be as thorough as possible with their student’s special diet. For example, if a student can’t have eggs but can eat a baked product with eggs in it, this must be stated in the Meal Modification request. This will allow for more choices for the student at mealtime and avoid restrictions.

If a student only requires a substitution for cow’s milk due to lactose intolerance or allergy, or changing a fruit or vegetable to another, families need not provide a doctor’s note. However, if a student requires more restrictions, a letter including guidance must be obtained from a doctor or a medical authority.

Renaissance implemented an option available to certain schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) starting in School Year 2018, and will be continuing it this year.  Read the letter granting the provision and download the required form here: CEC Form (English) | CEC Form (ESP).

What does this mean for you and your children? Great news for you and your children!

All enrolled students of The Renaissance Charter School are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to your household each day of the school year. No further action is required of you. Your children will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay for meals or submit an application. However, so that we continue to receive Title 1 funding, you are still required to fill out the meal application form, as well as filling out forms for any children that may be attending schools that do not participate in CEP.

If we can be of any further assistance, please contact us: Dawn LeDu, dawnledu@rencharter.org,  or Michelle Cardona, (929) 314-4903, or  michellecardona@rencharter.org.
