State law gives priority for admissions to returning (or current) students, siblings of current students, children of staff and children who live in the community school district the school resides in. The Renaissance Charter School is located in Community School District 30. Since we have more applications from within the CSD than seats available, today we will not be including applications from outside of the district, but these will be held on a waiting list.
State law also requires a public admissions’ lottery when there are more applications than seats available. The application deadline was April 1st, and only applications received by that date were included in this lottery.
There is one class per grade from PreK-4th grade at Renaissance.. In 5th grade the school takes in a second cohort, which remains two classes from 5th grade on. PreK has 18 children and the rest of the classes have 30 children each. The number of seats available is determined by such things as how many children move up to the next grade, if children leave the school, and if there are siblings. For 2023-2024, Renaissance was able to fill seats for grades PreK, Kindergarten, 5th grade,_and 9th grade. A lottery is held for the remaining grades should seats become available at a future date.
After pulling out any out-of-district applications, as well as sibling and staff priority applications, the remaining applications were assigned a random number through the online site Random.Org. The number generator on Random.Org was used to select the winning lottery seats.
Our Pre-kindergarten class has a total of __18 seats available. There were _0_ returning students. There were 16__ siblings, leaving_2_ seats available. There was a total of _148 applications, of which __61__ were from CSD 30. These applications were the only ones that were included in the lottery.
Our kindergarten class has a total of 30_ seats available. _18__ seats were given to returning students. There were _3__ siblings. Therefore, 6 seats were available for kindergarten at this time. There was a total of _174__ applications, of which _65__ were from CSD 30. These applications are the only ones that went into the lottery.
Our 5th grade has 60 seats. _30__ seats were given to our returning students moving up. There were _0__ siblings. Therefore, there were _26__ seats available to draw for. Of a total of _74_ applications, _34___ were from CSD 30. These applications were the only ones that went into the lottery.
Our 9th grade has 90 seats. _82__ seats were given to our returning students moving up. There were _2__ siblings. Therefore, _6__ seats were available.. We had a total of _275__ applications, of which _100__ were from CSD 30. These applications were the only ones that were included in the lottery.
