After-School Programs
Our longtime after-school partner, 82nd Street Academics, operates a free after-school homework and enrichment program onsite at The Renaissance Charter School for Grades 5 through 10. A fee-based program located at 82nd Street Academics is available for PreKindergarten and Grades 1-4.
About 82nd Street Academics (82SA)
82SA is a not-for-profit educational institution in Jackson Heights with the mission of helping New York City students get to college. There is no fee required to participate for Grades 5-10. Funding for Grades 5, 9, and 10 is generously provided through The After School Corporation (TASC), The Renaissance Charter School, and the New York City Council. Funding for Grades 6, 7, and 8 is provided through the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development.
82SA Activities
Renaissance-82SA’s onsite after-school program features homework help, tutoring, and social-emotional skill building. Students interact with a mentor to drive their enthusiasm and interest in programming. Instructors work closely with Renaissance staff members to identify students’ needs so that together, children receive the academic and social support necessary for a successful school year.
The program is offered five (5) days a week starting Monday, September 16 and ending on Monday, June 13, 2025.
Daily Schedule
Monday-Friday: 2:45 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Parent Expectations
Students work in a clean, secure, and welcoming classroom during after school hours.
Your child is to be treated with respect, dignity, and fairness by our staff members.
Students participate in engaging and productive enrichment activities that match their interests.
Our staff supervises students during homework time, offering help and guidance. Since academic success is a joint effort, we help students understand the importance of homework–that means we need their cooperation to meet our goals.
Parents should also understand that homework completion is not guaranteed each day as we have many activities planned. Students may go home with homework still to be completed.
Student Responsibilities
Students are expected to make an honest good faith effort every day to complete their homework. We expect students to bring all necessary materials to do so. During enrichment activities, we expect students to be respectful of their peers and instructors and participate appropriately in lessons.
Information Sessions
The 82nd Street Academics team hosts two information sessions in early September to answer any questions about the free and fee-based programs. Please refer to our Events Calendar for dates and details.
