Did you know that green bell peppers have more vitamins than apples? Increasing the variety of your child’s fruit and vegetable intake is a great way to improve learning. That’s why we are pleased to announce that TRCS and TRCS 2 are included in the federal Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) for 2022-2023. Through this program, TRCS offers children a variety of fresh produce every day, from apples to zucchini!
Started in 2002, the FFVP allows schools to provide healthier meal and snack options to children throughout the school day. Since nutrition and academic performance have long been linked, the Renaissance community strongly believes in the importance of healthy bodies and healthy minds for children’s everyday success.
Early-life experiences with various tastes and flavors have a role in promoting healthy eating in future life.

As many parents know, offering kids fruits and vegetable is one thing. Getting them to eat them is whole other matter! That’s where our Nutrition Club comes in. Students in the Nutrition Club go behind the scenes, into the school kitchen, to taste-test new dishes before they are prepared for the whole school. “Kids are visual eaters but if their friends are indulging in vegetables then you have a high likelihood of them eating as well,” TRCS Chef Manager Gregory Hills explains.
That’s the goal, of course–to inspire children to try (healthy) new things that help them grow into their own best selves.
